MY TEAM TRIUMPH
It was Jim McKay who popularized the phrase “The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat” from the TV Series ABC’s Wide World of Sports several decades ago. What a backdrop and reflective memory as Cable Tie Express is proud to present its award for January to myTEAM TRIUMPH , a 501(c)3 corporation whose belief is that “everyone deserves the chance to experience the joy of crossing the finish line”!
It was in 2008 that the running community in Grand Rapids, MI launched myTEAM TRIUMPH as a way to give back and help individuals with “disABILITIES” be part of a community. And that vision has expanded to be a national movement in 18 states with local events in 36 communities.
The mission of this organization is “To enhance the health and wellbeing of individuals with disabilities by fostering long lasting, authentic relationships through the teamwork environment of endurance athletes.” The chapters invest in specialized race equipment, recruit volunteers, facilitate trainings and lend race day support as well as promoting their own events with myTEAM TRIUMPH as the charity partner. Whether it is through training runs, community racing events, or social connections, this team of Captains and Angels empower those with disabilities to experience the thrill of victory, joy, and accomplishment.
Barb Martz, leader for the Northern Indiana, shared these comments about MTT: “MTT provides opportunities for ALL to participate. MTT is a a win win for everyone involved. Our abled bodies are the wings for our captains with different abilities. They are called angels. MTT impacts our community, provides opportunities and allows all people to participate. It gives me so much JOY to lead this chapter and watch our captains as they prove that anything is possible!”
Some athletes look to achieve goals of finish times, paces, and personal bests but individuals embraced by myTEAM TRIUMPH perhaps score the most meaningful goals of all:
Increased Self Confidence
A Greater Sense of Purpose
More Inclusive Communities
