OPEN DOORS OF WESTFIELD
1990 was the year; Joe and Alice Trentman were the founders; and Open Doors of Westfield was the organization founded to provide food, clothing, and spiritual support to individuals in Hamilton County, IN. This amazing organization has been growing and making a stronger impact each year in the lives of many families in this Indiana community.
All clients serviced by Open Doors of Westfield must meet eligibility requirements to receive food, clothing, and other types of assistance throughout the year. A trained advocate assesses the needs of the family, recommending community resources and opportunities for prayer if requested. Currently over 10 churches, the Westfield community and trustees, and grants assist the organization as it receives food donations or reduced pricing from several organizations including the Midwest Food Bank and Kroger. Open Doors of Westfield has no paid positions, being run entirely by volunteers, and housed in a building on land that was donated by the school corporation several years ago.
Some of the programs currently underway are the Weekend Food Bag Program which takes place during the school year, the Postal Carriers Food Drive to feed families during the summer, and the Pack the Cruiser (Police Cruiser) to further support its efforts.
A definitive impact from these programs? Absolutely! Check out these figures below for the first quarter of 2023:
# of Family Visits – 727
People Served – 3151
Veterans Served – 20
New Families – 30
Lbs. of Food Distributed – 42,304
