MIDWEST FOOD BANK AND WISH-TV “SEND THE LOVE” PROGRAM
The Midwest Food Bank, the largest faith-based food bank in the United States, is a nondenominational 501 © (3) that was founded in 2003 with the steadfast mission to “share the love of Christ by alleviating hunger and malnutrition locally and throughout the world and providing disaster relief: all without discrimination”. With this powerful mission and action throughout the past 20 years, this organization has earned the highest four-star rating with Charity Navigator, the premier independent charity evaluator, every year since 2011.
It is this organization that has been selected as a partner by Indianapolis WISH-TV as part of their “send the love” campaign, a new program to support non-profits throughout central Indiana. For Cable Tie Express and its CTE Gives Back! Program coupled with our desire to assist with the continuing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, we have selected the Midwest Food Bank through this partnership program to direct our charity dollars. The dollars donated this month will help to reach the targeted $60,000 needed for the Food Bank’s initial effort to help the Ukrainian refugees. Each $5 donation can provide 25 servings of a nutritious high protein meal which includes rice and beans and is fortified with protein and essential vitamins and minerals.
So what really has formed the “meat and potatoes” of the Midwest Food Bank? Its grassroots approach in 2003 with the Keiser family farm becoming a distribution site for local food pantries has grown to an organization sharing its blessings worldwide. 99% of the monies received goes directly to those in need.
More than 4 million people were impacted in 2020 and it currently distributes over $32 million worth of food to over 2,000 non-profit organizations each month. Out of its 12 locations in Illinois, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Texas, Pennsylvania, New England, East Africa, and Haiti, more than 17,930 volunteers put in over 300,898 hours of service that year.
