TUNNEL TO TOWERS

            It’s often been said that behind so many good things in life, there’s a story to tell.  And as 2022 winds up, as the days and hours left in the year dwindle so quickly, perhaps a most fitting story with which to close our year is that of Firefighter Stephen Gerard Siller, the young man whose legacy is indeed the base and keystone of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) founded in 2001.

BREAD OF LIFE – CLARENDON, TEXAS

“While Clarendon, Texas of Donley County may be part of one of the fifth poorest counties in Texas, there is nowhere else I would choose to live.  This town is comprised of people who continually step up to help others.”  Those were the words spoken by katherine Monroe, Founder of Bread of Life Food Pantry, an organization providing food boxes to so many in this small community in the Texas panhandle.

COURAGE THROUGH CANCER FUND

October is earmarked internationally as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month with an annual campaign to increase awareness of this disease and to raise funds for the research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure.  What a powerful mission for this horrible disease that truly impacts countless families in the world.

Check out some of the facts and figures about breast cancer, a cancer like other cancers that does not discriminate and can be swift and punishing:

1.  In 2022 an estimated 287,850 new cases of invasive breast cancer and 51,400 cases of non-invasive cases are projected.
2. About 1 in 8 US women (about 13%) will develop invasive breast cancer sometime in their lives.
3. Approximately 43,250 women in the US are expected to die from this disease in 2022, higher than those from any other cancer besides lung cancer.

With so many charities worldwide focusing on awareness, research, and treatment of this disease, Cable Tie Express through its CTE Gives Back! Program has chosen this month to target our charity dollars to one specific fund:  The Wallace, Shatsky, Blackburn Courage Through Cancer Fund.

JUVENILE DIABETES RESEARCH FOUNDATION

With a vision of a world without Type 1 Diabetes, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is the leading global organization funding Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) research.  This autoimmune disease can strike children and adults suddenly with no correlation to lifestyle or diet.  There is nothing one can do to prevent it nor is there currently a cure for this disease.  In short, with T1D the body stops producing insulin, a hormone the body needs to get energy from food, now requiring daily attention and manual intervention.  Monitoring blood sugar levels and balancing insulin doses in eating and activity throughout the day is key to the management of this disease.

RAPHA ROAD

“If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day.  If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.”  Many have heard this quote but one nonprofit organization, Rapha Road out of Noblesville IN, has enabled a similar opportunity with beneficial results for lifelong healing for sober men in addiction recovery. 

Kevin Mangins, founder of Rapha Road, started the 501© after seeing men leaving a treatment center in Indiana without a safe and sober place to live or employment.  That vision led to the formation and mission of Rapha Road: “Rapha Road exists to provide a safe place for sober men in addiction recovery to live while also providing full time employment.  Rapha Road equips residents with the required skills to live a productive life, all while experiencing the freedom that only comes from a personal relationship with Rapha, God the Healer.”

With inflation rates hitting 8.6% for the 12-month period ending May 2022, the largest annual increase since December 1981, many families are truly struggling to put food on the table, to fill their gas tanks with fuel, and to meet many basic financial requirements of daily living.

The ITOWN Church, headquartered in Fishers, IN, has been stepping forward to assist in one aspect of these challenging times – that of putting food on the table.  Through its FEED YOUR NEIGHBOR mission, ITOWN Church as fed 75,674 families, providing food to the tune of 1,590,915 pounds of food, and tallying 1,026 salvations.CHCH

ADULT AND TEEN CHALLENGE – NORTHERN INDIANA

            What started with an “I have an idea” moment of David Wilkerson, a pastor from a country pulpit in NYC, in reaction to the murder of seven teenage boys in 1958 began an outreach to gangs in the city and led to the development of an incredible 501(3) © non-profit organization called Adult and Teen Challenge.  The model of this Christ-centered program is to assist with drug and alcohol recovery, helping people on the path to become mentally sound, emotionally balanced, socially adjusted, physically well, and spiritually alive with a strong relationship to Christ.

MIDWEST FOOD BANK AND WISH-TV “SEND THE LOVE” PROGRAM

The Midwest Food Bank, the largest faith-based food bank in the United States, is a nondenominational 501 © (3) that was founded in 2003 with the steadfast mission to “share the love of Christ by alleviating hunger and malnutrition locally and throughout the world and providing disaster relief: all without discrimination”.  With this powerful mission and action throughout the past 20 years, this organization has earned the highest four-star rating with Charity Navigator, the premier independent charity evaluator, every year since 2011.
